Standards

Ethics policy

How we report, what we promise our readers, and how we correct ourselves when we get it wrong.

Trust is the only asset a newsroom really has. This policy sets out the standards every tek54 journalist works to, and the commitments we make to you in return for your attention.

Accuracy and verification

We verify before we publish. Factual claims are checked against primary sources wherever possible, and significant stories are read by an editor who was not involved in the reporting. We distinguish clearly between reporting, analysis, and opinion, and we label each so you always know what you are reading.

Sourcing

We prefer named, on-the-record sources. We grant anonymity only when the information is in the public interest, cannot be obtained another way, and the source faces a real risk — and we explain to readers why anonymity was granted. We do not pay sources for stories.

  • Quotes are not altered beyond light edits for clarity, and never in a way that changes meaning.
  • We give subjects of critical coverage a fair opportunity to respond before publication.
  • AI tools may assist with research and transcription, but every published word is written and verified by a human, and AI is never used to fabricate quotes, sources, or images.

Independence and conflicts of interest

Our coverage is never for sale. Advertising, sponsorship, and events play no part in editorial decisions. Journalists declare financial or personal interests relevant to their beat and recuse themselves where a conflict could reasonably be perceived. Gifts of more than nominal value are declined.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we fix it promptly and visibly. Corrections are noted on the article with the date of the change; we do not quietly edit the record. Significant corrections are flagged at the top of the piece.

To report an error, email corrections@tek54.com with the URL and the specific issue. We read every message.
